About Lakaz Chamarel

  • Close Panel

Lakaz Chamarel is a small boutique hotel located in a small valley next to the Black River Gorges National Park in South West Mauritius.

A beautiful location to get away from the crowds and enjoy nature, this property has a selection of uniquely styled rooms in 12 hectares of gorgeous tropical gardens with two pools and massage facilities.

Take local walks or bike rides in the mountains and parks and enjoy the beauty and wildlife of Mauritius. This area is home to many endangered species of birds and plants.

Breakfast and dinner is included in the rates and the chef here had 10 years experience in 5 star hotels. Home made bread with butter, eggs and cheese from the farm on site are a highlight of breakfast here! There are several local restaurants in about a 10 minute walking distance for lunches or the lodge can prepare lunch for you on request.

There is a main living room area with fireplace, TV, music system and a selection of games. You can hire bikes and guides to get out and about. There are two swimming pools in the tropical gardens. The atmosphere is tranquil and the experience of Lakza Chamarel is a world away from that of a coastal resort. Whilst staying at Lakaz Chamarel guests can enjoy indulgant massages with aromatic essential oils and the therapeutic affects of reflexology. There is a sauna. Yoga classes can also be arranged. Yoga benefits the body and mind, it is relaxing and energising, loosens and tiones the muscles.

The owners of Lakaz Chamarel are Mauritians so you can be sure of an authentic and welcoming stay to the friendly creole culture of the island! Running two beautiful 5 star hotels on the island for over 15 years they have treated this lodge to the same care and beautiful finish with local architecture and decoration in all the rooms. Together with over 20 staff, some of whom live on the property with their families, they will give you a warm welcome and treat you as if this were your home.

From October 2011, Lakaz Chamarel will have 20 rooms, including 13 spacious suites. All have a terrace and private bathroom with open shower. Other room amenties include a minibar, tea & coffee making facilities, 'phone and Ipod dock. The suites also have a private pool.

Pricing guidelines for Mauritius

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £900 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Mauritius combines well with South Africa.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

Superb -  this was one of my favourite places on Mauritius - the only place where I could sit and hear birdsong!  The gardens are simply beautiful and the pool fresh and clear.  The biggest problem were the mossies, sitting on the room verandah we were bitten all over, but thankfully the nets and coils seemed to work at night and we had a good nights sleep.  The room had an African safari feel to it and was very comfortable, food and wine was superb - but as with everywhere on Mauritius the price of meals and drinks is high.  I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to see the 'forest' side of Mauritius or simply wants a sanctuary away from the beach resorts for a bit of rejuvination!
