About The Residence

  • Close Panel

The Residence is set on over half a mile of sandy beach on the lovely east coast of Mauritius near Belle Mare. Service is second to none, with each room and suite being appointed their own personal butler, who will unpack your bags, run your bath and take care of laundry and ironing during your stay.

The 135 rooms and 28 suites all have air conditioning and ceiling fans, modern ensuite bathrooms with separate bathtub and shower, living area, TV, CD/DVD player, phone and minibar. Rooms have either garden, partial sea or full sea views and balcony or terrace. The suites are larger and have a large private terrace with chairs and table. The ocean view and ocean front suites also have 4 poster beds.

There is no shortage of activities. All the usual watersports are available - waterskiing, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking, glass bottom boat rides and snorkelling. Diving, catamaran cruises and sailing boat hire can also be arranged (payable locally). Other activities include tennis - there are 3 floodlit courts - and volleyball. For those wanting to take it easy, there is ample space to relax around the pool, in the tropical garden or on the private beach. Additional on site facilities include 5 boutiques and a Kids Club, with daily activities to keep the young ones (3-12 years) entertained.

The Sanctuary Spa
Dedicated to relaxation, the spa offers a vast range of treatments including indivually tailored programmes and special Asian treatments. There are 9 treatment rooms where guests can enjoy soothing therapies including massages and body wraps, exfoliations, stone therapy using hot and cold stones to release muscular tension, Reiki and reflexology. They also offer Ytsara treatments, based on ancient Thai holistic therapies and Thai yoga massage. Special treatments are available for children. The Sanctuary also incorporates a hair and beauty salon offering nail treaments and waxing. In addition guests can relax in the sauna or steam room. Gym and aerobics classes are available and personal gym training programmes can be devised.

A daily buffet breakfast is served in 'The Dining Room', a rich mixture of local and western fare. In the evenings a la carte meals are served here. Lunch can be taken at 'The Verandah', a selection of light meals including toasted sandwiches, oven-baked pizzas, salads and home made ice creams, served around the pool. 'The Plantation' is set on the seafront and specialises in seafood and local dishes, being a famous restaurant in the area. It is open for both lunch and dinner. The bar has comfy sofas and armchairs and is open for late breakfast and high tea as well as for drinks. The piano bar often provides soft music in the evening.

Pricing guidelines for Mauritius

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £900 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Mauritius combines well with South Africa.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £100

Of all the large, luxury properties we saw on Mauritius, this was my favourite!  It feels very 'colonial' and British in decor, especially the grandeur of the huge entrance and the piano bar.  But although there are 'room butlers' and the like, it's not a sort of stand on ceremony place.  The staff were superb, the attention to detail was amazing, the hors d'oeuvres platter was totally out of this world!  100 out of 10 for service!  We arrived unfortunately late at night and didn't have time to sample the beach and pool, though I did walk along to the beach restaurant to take a look.  If you want quality and luxury, this is the place!
