About Mvuu Camp

  • Close Panel

Mvuu Camp consists of a mix of stone and canvas chalets and tents providing a total of 48 beds. There is a large thatched central dining and lounge area on the edge of the Shire River. There is also an outdoor 'boma' where dinners are sometimes served under the stars.

The 'Camp' is seperated from neighbouring Mvuu Lodge by a short distance of bushlands, the Lodge being more exclusive and smaller.

Mvuu Camp is family friendly and has a swimming pool and a range of activities. Game drives, bush walks and boat safaris are all offered here. There is a large education and conference centre.

Boat safaris are the highlight at Mvuu (Camp and Lodge) and birding is fantastic around Liwonde. Huge crocodiles and plenty of hippos are seen up and down the river and guests can also visit neighbouring fishing villages and travel further up the water towards Lake Malawi. Nature walks and trips to the local village (across the river outside the park) and biking are popular too.

Pricing guidelines for Malawi

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Malawi combines well with Zambia.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £100

Mvuu Camp is in a stunning setting, though it's a large camp, catering for a lot of local market and school visits as well as international guests.  Personally, I don't find the food great here and don't like buffet food, but understand that a lodge this size has to be like that.  The boat safaris at Mvuu are superb and take the time to visit the local village or go further up and down stream on the Shire River if you can, the water side villages are worth a stop off to enjoy Malawi life!
