About Danforth Yachting

  • Close Panel

A luxury small lodge and yacht charter company based in the Lake Malawi National Park area.

Surrounded by islands, this is one of the most beautiful locations on Lake Malawi situated at Cape Maclear surrounded by hills and ideally situated for snorkelling and diving in the National Marine Park area. Danforth is both a Malawi yacht charter company and a luxury lodge, focusing on sailing and water sports. The Lodge has four spacious, en-suite family rooms, tastefully decorated in cool, nautical colours and all opening onto a large patio. All rooms have spectacular views of the lake and look out over Thumbi West Island. The garden has shady lawns, leading to a pool, clean beach and crystal clear water. The beach is just a stone's throw away.

Owner run by Howard and Michelle Massey-Hicks who started Danforth Yachting lodge and yacht charters in 2001. The couple have both sailed since their youth and both grew up enjoying watersports. Howard has over 40,000 nautical miles under his belt and is regarded as the authority on sailing and navigating Lake Malawi. He is also a PADI Divemaster, and skilled in many other areas of water sport training. Michelle's role covers everything from yacht crew, hostess, administrator and kitchen supervisor, to waterski demonstrator and seamstress!  There are also another couple working as diving instructor and chef and a whole team of local Malawians who work at the lodge and with the yacht and other water sports here.  Most of them are from the local Chembe Village just down the road from Danforth's base.

The 'stay and play' rates at Danforth include the use of mountain bikes and all water sports except the yacht and diving which you pay extra for.

Pricing guidelines for Malawi

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Malawi combines well with Zambia.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • Example tripPrice per person
  • 1 week holiday /safari staying in quality accommodationBetween £1800 and £3000
  • 1 week stay at high quality lakeside lodges (including the islands)From about £2500 +
