Chelinda Lodge

LATEST NEWS NOVEMBER 2007  NYIKA SAFARIS HAVE MOVED OUT OF CHELINDA LODGE - PLEASE CONTACT US REGARDING FUTURE BOOKINGS OF THIS ACCOMMODATION AS WE ARE MONITORING CHANGES.

Chelinda Lodge is situated in the 2607m high Nyika Plateau in the Nyika National Park, a vast, untouched, beautiful wilderness area, home to eland, roan antelope zebra, reedbuck, bushbuck, klipspringer, duiker, warthog, bushpig and blue monkey. Accommodation at Chelinda Lodge is in eight log cabins, each with fireplace; an important feature, as this region can be colder than anywhere else in Africa. Each cabin has two floors. On the ground floor there is an open plan bedroom and lounge, with ensuite bathroom, queen-sized beds, wing-back chairs and a verandah. Upstairs there is a further living area. All the cabins are connected by wooden walkways and are beautifully landscaped on the hillside. The main building has a large dining room, a comfortable lounge, bar, reception area and curio shop. Chelinda Lodge also offers four self-contained, two-bedroomed cottages, each with its own cook and kitchen. And for those who wish to camp, there is a beautifully-situated campsite with hot and cold showers and flush toilets.

In the remote areas of the park (only accessible by foot or on horseback) there are elephant, buffalo, kudu, Sharpe's grysbok, baboon and vervet monkey. The Nyika is also a must for birdwatchers visiting Malawi with 435 species recorded due to the diversity of habitat. In the summer months (October - April) the open hills burst into flower - irises, gladioli and protea - and 200 species of orchid are found in the park.
