Dinosaur Footprints

About Dinosaur Footprints

  • Close Panel

Near Mohale's Hoek in the west and on the other side of Lesotho on the borders of the Drakkensburg Mountains are sites of Dinosaur Footprints, aslo at a preserved site in Quthing.

Some of the best preserved dinosaur relics in the world are found in Lesotho and it is a favourite place for archeologists and paleontologists. The country even has a dinosaur named after it - the Leosthosaurus which was a 1 metre long herbivourous lizard, a very primitve ornithopod from the late Triassic and early Jurassic period 200 - 208 million years ago. There is a reconstruction model in the Natural History Museum in London.
