Asha Cottage is a family run boutique style bed and breakfast lodge, built in the Swahili style on one acre of seafront property. It has a lovely open air verandah along the front which provides seating space too - overlooking the pool towards the sea. Guests are usually booked on a bed and breakfast basis to give you more flexible choice for lunches and dinners.
There are only five guest rooms, all large and nicely decorated in African style with influence also from Europe. There are Swahili style Lamu ceilings, floor tiles and local carpentry work. All rooms have king size beds, mosquito nets and spacious bathrooms. They all have air conditioning, ceiling fans and mosquito window nets.
Some of the best food in Diani is offered here cooked by a trained chef in many different styles including international and local cuisine. There is also a really good 'catch of the day' grill menu. Full continental breakfast is served with home-made breads and cakes, a wide variety of jams, yogurts, fresh tropical fruits and fresh fruit juices, cereals, coffee, tea and milk. For lunch you can choose from a selection of soups, salads and sandwiches. 'The Ledge' along the beach front is open to the public for lunch too. For your evening meal you have a selection of two starts, three mains and dessert. Fresh crab, prawns and lobster are available on order.
There is a pool in front of the house and lovely gardens to relax in. Massages and beauty treatments are available.
Asha Cottage's beach front sand terrace (The Ledge) is where guests can relax with drinks, meals or just watch beach life passing by! There is a small local boat to take you snorkelling or just explore the reef at low tide. Other water sports are available at nearby hotels.
ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL ETHICS
Asha Cottage donates a percentage of profits to social development and environmental projects. Two organisations supported are the Colobus Trust and the Cradle of Love (a baby home). The Asha Boutique shop also provides shelf space for women's groups in Kenya who make handicrafts and guests can find a little something special to take home while also supporting rural Kenyan women's households.
Tree-planting and wildlife conservation: since identifying the site for Asha Cottage none of the old indigenous trees have been removed. They have planted over 100 plants and bushes to embellish the gardens, but also to ensure that a continuous canopy is available for monkeys to access their food supplies. In particular, our gardens are home to a troupe of Colobus Monkeys, that are now accustomed to people and feel safe in our gardens. Solar energy: all hot water is heated using solar energy. Waste recycling is in place and organice waste is composted. Rainwater collections and controlled detergent use policies are also in place.
