About Solio Lodge

  • Close Panel

Solio Lodge is set on a private ranch in the Solio Game Reserve, famous for its role in saving the Kenya rhino from extinction. The lodge welcomed its first guests in August 2010 and its secluded setting offers privacy while its stylish contemporary accommodation is truly luxurious. The lodge is located between Mount Kenya and the Aberdares and there are wonderful views from the lodge.

There is a total of 6 rooms, including a family unit and a honeymoon suite. Each has its own lounge area complete with open fireplace for the cooler evenings and a large bathroom with twin handbasins, shower and bath. There are large picture windows making the most of the views of the plains and Mount Kenya beyond and the large deck is the perfect place to relax between game drives. Service at Solio is second to none and the food is delicious.

Solio Game Reserve was established in 1970 and is a mix of open grasslands and wooded ravines. As well as the black rhino and white rhino for which the reserve is renowned, guests can expect to see many other species such as lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, buffalo, eland and oryx. The is also a good bird watching area. There are morning and evening game drives in the reserve. Guests can also take guided walks and explore on horseback. Fishing and helicopter flights can be arranged.

Pricing guidelines for Kenya

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £400 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Kenya combines well with Tanzania or Uganda.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
