About Loisaba Starbeds

  • Close Panel

The Starbeds offer guests an adventurous and romantic sleeping experience under the African sky. Each Starbed is designed on a raised, handcrafted, wooden platform that is partially covered with a thatched roof. Homemade 'Mukokoteni' beds can either be wheeled onto the open deck for a night under the stars or left under the shelter of the roof. All the beds have complete four poster mosquito netting.

There are 2 sets of star beds, which feature 2 double platforms and 1 twin platform, all equipped with traditional safari showers and flush toilets.

The Kiboko Starbeds are 20 minutes from the main lodge and overlook a waterhole, while the Koija Starbeds are 40 minutes' drive from the lodge and overlook the Ewaso Nyiro River. These are perched over the flowing river below and are reached by footbridge from the opposite bank. The Koija Starbeds are part of an exciting joint venture project that Loisaba has undertaken in partnership with the Laikipiak Maasai people from the Koija community.

The Star Beds are normally reached by one of many options; on foot, horse, camel or vehicle and with two sets now in place create a unique opportunity to travel between them both and the lodge as part of a Starbed Expedition.

Your hosts at the Starbeds are Samburu and Laikipiak Maasai warriors. There are traditional camp kitchens at both locations serving delicious food. From the starbeds the facilities and activities at Loisaba Lodge can also be used.

Pricing guidelines for Kenya

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £400 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Kenya combines well with Tanzania or Uganda.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
