Down To Earth: Kenya Wildlife Safari

Kenya's wildlife is just magnificent, and this excellent mobile camping safari visits two of the country's best wildlife regions: Amboseli and the Masai Mara. You'll go game watching in the morning, game watching in the afternoon and game watching at night, and in diverse environments, giving you a fantastic opportunity to see an incredible range of mammals, birds and reptiles. And you'll get an insight into the Maasai way of life, with a visit to an authentic Maasai village.

You'll camp in private conservancy areas bordering game parks, enjoying dinners around the campfire under the stars. There's an evening game drive in the Selenkay Conservation Area, a truly wild, Maasai-owned 15,000 acre private game reserve within the Amboseli ecosystem. And we'll take you to Amboseli National Park, where you can get some great views of Kilimanjaro. Amboseli's best known for its game - especially elephants, and we'll get you close to these magnficent creatures. And of course the Mara is one of the best places in Africa for excellent big cat sightings of lion, leopard and cheetah.

This is one of Tribes' Down to Earth holidays. This is a great range of more affordable, set itinerary holidays, as opposed to our tailor made trips. The Down to Earth holidays also have their own website where you will find lots more details about each trip.

Included

1nt Wildebeest Camp in Nairobi, 6nts camping in 2-man dome tents with high density mattress, 6 days full board, 1 day breakfast, mineral water, transport in 4x4 safari vehicle with roof hatches, transfer trailer, driver/guide, camp staff/cook, park fees.

Is it for you?

This mobile camping safari uses 2-person Coleman Sundome tents which are 10 ft x 10ft square, and 6 ft tall so you can stand up! Each tent will have 2 single beds with high density mattress, which is more comfortable than sleeping on camp beds. Each dome tent will have its own tent cubicle with a flush toilet, wash basin and hot safari shower. This is a great trip for those who want to experience varied game viewing away from the crowds and who value the wildlife safari experience above the accommodation. Ideal for those who enjoy an element of “roughing it”, but are seeking an exceptional and exclusive wildlife experience with high quality guiding.

Best time

Kenya is a great year round destination, but do be aware that the long rains usually arrive in late March and last till the beginning of May. There is also a short rainy season in November. However, the dates of our trips are designed to avoid the rains.

Getting there

Our with flights price is based on using either Kenya Airways, Virgin or BA (depending on date) which would leave the UK either the day before this itinerary on an overnight flight, or leaving the Uk early on Day 1, which would get you to Nairobi in the evening on day 1. On the way back you would also have an overnight flight arriving back in the UK the next day.

Pricing guidelines for Kenya

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £400 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Kenya combines well with Tanzania or Uganda.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150
