Masai Mara & Lake Victoria

Masai Mara & Lake Victoria offers varied game viewing in different regions of the Masai Mara Game Reserve followed by a relaxing stay by Lake Victoria. This short itinerary will make the most of your time in Kenya. You will stay in two small camps in the Mara where the emphasis is on personal service and attention to detail. The accommodation is in comfortable, ensuite tents and each camp has a central lounge and bar area where meals and drinks can be enjoyed. Rusinga Island Camp is set on the shores of Lake Victoria and its lush gardens and inviting pool make this the perfect place in which to relax after your game viewiing.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1. Fly from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to the Masai Mara. You will be met on arrival and transferred to Mara Porini Camp. Mara Porini Camp is a small, exclusive camp situated on the Maasai-owned Ol Kinyei Wildlife Conservancy. The 6 tents are large and well furnished and all have ensuite facilities. (Full board) 
  2. Day 2. A full day's activities at Mara Porini. After breakfast you might want to take an ethno-botanical walk led by a local Maasai guide to learn more about the flora and fauna of the area. Guests can also go on game drives in the conservancy and take night drives. (Full board)
  3. Day 3. You will be transferred by road to Porini Lion Camp where you have a three night stay. Settle into this camp, set in the exclusive Olare Orok Conservancy. Relax on your private veranda or maybe take a stroll to the hippo pools. (Full board)  
  4. Days 4 & 5. Two days to explore the area. Lion Camp offers day and night game drives, walks led by local Maasai guides and visits to local villages. There is also the chance of a balloon safari (optional extra). Back at camp relax in the lounge with fellow guests and enjoy the fabulous home cooked food. (Full board) 
  5. Day 6. Transfer to the airstrip for the short flight to Rusinga Island (35mins). You will be transferred to Rusinga Island Lodge where you will spend the next 4 nights. Located by the shores of the Lake Victoria this is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life. With its lush gardens, swimming pool and spa it offers a choice of relaxing activities. Accommodation is in invidual cottages with ensuite bathroom and private veranda overlooking the lake. (Full board)
  6. Days 7 - 9. Your time is your own at Rusinga. You may want to take it easy exploring the gardens with their plentiful plant and bird life. Down by the lake you can mingle with local people. Activities offered here include boat trips to local villages and other islands, swimming, waterskiing and fishing. Guests can also hire bikes and take local walks. (Full board)  
  7. Day 10. You will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight back to the Masai Mara and the onward flight to Nairobi. (B)

Is it for you?

This trip is suitable for anyone keen to see game in the famous Masai Mara and then relax by Lake Victoria. Children of 8 years can be accepted.

Best times to go

This trip can be taken at any time of the yearis a year round destination. However most people tend to avoid the rainy season, from April till the beginning of June. The migration is about July-August for the crossing from the Serengeti, and then the herds are resident until about October, at which time they head back down to the Serengeti.
