About Sunbird Lodge

  • Close Panel

Set on 55 acres of private land between Nakuru and Gilgil, this lodge is located in the Great Rift Valley,on the shore of the '“pink'” Lake Elementaita. Sunbird Lodge is named after one of the more than 450 species of birds in this area.

The setting overlooks the vast plains of Soysambu Conservancy. Beautifully nestled in a pristine environment above Lake Elementaita one can experience the amazing sunsets from the lodge.

Being a small and exclusive lodge holding not more than 25 guests at a time, sunbird Lodge offers 10 large and luxurious cottages. They are built from natural materials and thatched roofs, each cottage has its own verandah, king size bed, additional single bed, en-suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, safes and telephones.

The restaurant with a fantastic view and big sliding glass doors serves a buffet breakfast. Lunch and dinner is a la carte style. Experienced chefs prepare mouth watering dishes for quests. Two fire places keep you warm and spread a romantic atmosphere. Or enjoy a pleasant outdoor dining experience under the stars overlooking the swimming pool and Lake Elmentaita / Soysambu conservancy. The Lodge is 20 minutes drive from Lake Nakuru National Park.

The bar and lounge with an open fireplace is well stocked with both, local and imported beverages. Friendly barman will prepare you an exotic cocktail while you relax and take in the wonderful views of the conservancy.

In the day relax and pamper yourself to a massage or take a dip in the swimming pool, or take a game drive in Nakuru National Park, or experience a balloon safari followed by a unique champagne bush breakfast. Or watch the sunset over the lake while you take a sundowner.

Pricing guidelines for Kenya

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £400 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Kenya combines well with Tanzania or Uganda.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150

This is my favourite lodge in the Rift Valley area. The staff members were great and made you feel welcome. Even though it is a longer drive to Nakuru, it has great views over the lake and the rooms are gorgeous. One thing to point out is that there are some steep steps to reach certain areas so may not be suitable for everyone.
