Sosian Lodge as built in the 1940s as a working ranch. It is a stunning location and has views of Mount Kenya. The lodge is privately owned and the ranch covers some 24,000 acres. The main lodge has recently been restored and 7 cottages built in the gardens which provide accommodation for up to 14 guests. These cottages are attractively furnished and offer spacious accommodation, with large ensuite bathrooms and private verandas.
The main lodge includes a large sitting room with comfy chairs and sofas where guests can relax between activities. Guests are also free to stroll through the tropical gardens and enjoy the swimming pool. Sosian also has a tennis court and indoors there is a billiards room. The Ewaso Narok River runs nearby and tubing down the river is popular. It is also possible to walk to the waterfalls and the brave may jump the 30 feet to the river beneath and enjoy a relaxing swim! Guests are also encouraged to involve themselves in the day-to-day work of the farm, helping with tasks such as cattle dipping.
The main emphasis is on the wonderful environment and wildlife. There are 2 distinct regions at Sosian. The northern half of the ranch is open grass plains which are home to herds of antelope, the rare Grevy's Zebra and Grant's Gazelle, while the southern half is mostly acacia woodland and is inhabited by elephant, giraffe, buffalo, lion and leopard. The lodge offers morning and afternoon game drives plus night drives to spot elusive nocturnal animals such as genet, mongoose, bush baby and aardvark. Guest can also take bush walks on the ranch and guided bird watching walks are also available - there are over 250 species of birds in this area. Horse riding is a great way to explore this area and the lodge has several horses suitable for experienced riders. Camel safaris can also be arranged, anything from 30 minutes to a a full day in duration. Children of all ages are welcome at Sosian and can enjoy safaris, horse riding lessons, swimming, picnics and many more special activities.
Meals are a highlight at Sosian. Breakfast is served on the veranda, lunch is often taken in the pool house and dinner is eaten in the elegant dining room or al fresco on the terrace. Sosian also arranges bush meals and picnics for those away from the lodge. Guests will enjoy hearty home-cooking, using the very freshest of ingredients, many of which have been grown in the lodge's own organic vegetable garden.
