Peponi Hotel

The waterfront at Shela is a busy point where the inland channel meets the ocean and the fisherman bring in their catches.  Peponi Hotel is a popular place for lunches and dinners as well as a local sundowner spot. The hotel has 24 rooms, which are divided into superior and standard rooms. All rooms at Peponi have sea views.

The superior rooms are differentiated by their location, size, private outside area, artwork and Swahili furnishings. No two rooms are alike. Five rooms are built right on the beach, with private verandah areas overlooking the sea, while the rest have a combination of ocean and garden views. All rooms have overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers (no baths) and personal safes.

The beach is accessed by a very short walk which leads onto many kilometres of completely deserted sandy shores flanked by tall sand dunes.  There is a swimming pool in the hotel's private garden.

Food is prepared using lots of fresh local ingredients can be served in your room or in the beachside restaurant.  Dhow trips and snorkelling are available as are other activities which you can book from the hotel.

This is perhaps one of the best known hotels on Lamu and very much still retains the original colonial style feel to it.
