About Ngerende Island Lodge

  • Close Panel

Ngerende Island Lodge is an elegant new property situated on an oxbow in the Mara River, surrounded by water on almost all sides. The lush vegetation, river views, luxurious accommodation and superb game viewing make this an ideal spot in which to spend several days.

The 7 tented suites are spaced well apart to ensure privacy and seclusion. They are contemporary in design, set on raised platforms and have polished mahogany floors extending out to the private terrace. The open plan sleeping and living area is spacious and inviting. All suites have an open fireplace, bathroom with massage shower and a separate open air bath. The terraces overlook the Mara River, with its resident pods of hippo. The honeymoon suite also has a plunge pool and jacuzzi. All rooms have a personal butler.

The main building houses the dining room, which has a veranda with expansive views of the river and hippo pool. There is a library and a sitting room with open fires as well as a small bar. Bush breakfasts, lunches and dinners can be arranged. There is an infinity swimming pool and a spa offering a range of restorative and pampering treatments including aromatherapy and massage.

Ngerende Island Lodge is located in the Olchoro Conservancy just outside the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Morning and afternoon game drives are offered and full day drives can be arranged. Night game drives give guests the chance to glimpse shy nocturnal species. Other activities available include guided bush walks, bird watching and visits to local schools. Alternatively, guests can relax on their own veranda and watch the hippos in the river.

The lodge is just 2 kilometers from an airstrip, so is easily accessible.

Pricing guidelines for Kenya

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £400 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Kenya combines well with Tanzania or Uganda.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150

This is possibly the most beautiful lodges in the Mara. The rooms are exquisite, beautifully designed with lovely small touches of luxury. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the hippos in the river just below my room, and found the tree-planting ‘touch’ at the end of my stay made it very special. The food and the staff were fantastic and I would certainly recommend this to clients looking for that ‘indulgent’ experience.
