Mfangano Island Camp

Mfangano Island Camp is located on the shores of Lake Victoria and is an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The island has just one road and no other hotels to disturb the peace. All the buildings are in the local Luo tribal style, walls of smoothed mud and clay, roofs of thatch and banana leaf - cool and airy. There are just 6 rooms, all set close to the water's edge, decorated with local handicrafts and all with ensuite bathrooms. Each room has its own private veranda with sunbeds where guests can relax in privacy. The cosy dining room and lounge are fanned by breezes from the lake. The cuisine is based on fresh local produce including fish from the lake.

Guests can go fishing on the lake, which is also perfect for swimming. The birds and wildlife of the area are fascinating and guests can go on guided walks from the camp. The local people are very friendly and guests can visit local villages. Other activities available include speedboat trips and exploring the island on foot.

  • Peaceful, secluded setting on Lake Victoria, ideal for nature lovers and those just wanting to relax in comfort and privacy.
