About Lewa Wilderness Trails

  • Close Panel

Lewa Wilderness Trails is a luxury, family-owned and run lodge in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, which covers about 60,000 acres. It has been a family home for about 30 years, and occupies a stunning setting with mountains, rocky outcrops, acacia woods, plains and a river valley all in the immediate vicinity. Lewa Wilderness Trails is at roughly 1615m so is not a malarial area.

There are 11 very comfortable and well-appointed rooms with sitting areas (some with fires) and en-suite bathrooms (mostly showers, and flush loos). The decor is simple but stylish. Electricity is provided by a generator mornings and evenings.

The newer rooms at Lewa Wilderness Trails are on the edge of a hill, with fantastic views of the surrounding landscape, and wildlife. The other rooms are in a lovely garden setting.

There is a good saltwater pool, a tennis court, cosy lounge and gift shop. You might also want to see the organic garden or visit the furniture factory!

The food is excellent and plentiful, and the hosts and staff are friendly and helpful.

Day and night game drives, nature walks and horse riding (beginners or experienced) are all available during your time here. The resident guides will ensure you get the most from your stay at Lewa Wilderness Trails.

Fair Trade / Responsible Tourism
Lewa Wilderness Trails is part of the efforts of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and so backs various community and conservation projects (through a daily conservation fee), such as a women's micro-economy business in rug weaving, a furniture factory, and rhino conservation.

Pricing guidelines for Kenya

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £400 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Kenya combines well with Tanzania or Uganda.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
