Kicheche Bush Camp is located in the Masai Mara within the newly established Olare Orok Conservancy (created from Koiyaki Group Ranch lands) bordering the Reserve. The camp is located in a prime wildlife area and game viewing starts right from the camp itself. The location is also ideal to experience the wildebeest migration.
This is a small intimate seasonal camp which, whilst providing a true African bush experience does not compromise on comfort or serve. Each of the 6 en-suite tents is furnished with twin or double beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, flushing toilet and a traditional safari bucket shower with a view. There are comfortable chairs on each verandah overlooking the plains. One tent can be converted into a triple on request. There is a spacious well furnished lounge and dining tent, although most of the time dining takes place outdoors.
The 'normal' daily routine at Kicheche Bush Camp consists of a wake up call at your tent door with tea, coffee or hot chocolate with home made biscuits delivered. Then an early morning game drive at sunrise and back to camp late morning for a leisurely breakfast outside the lounge area or as a picnic during the game drive. After lunch enjoy a siesta time under the shade of your veranda or use the lounge area. Afternoon game drives go out about 4pm after tea and cakes when the temperature drops and the animals are more active again. Sundowners are enjoyed out on the plains then return to camp, freshen up and enjoy pre-dinner drinks round the camp fire and dinner by candle light.
There is no mains power however each tent has its own 24 hour solar lighting system. Camera and Video batteries can also be charged on the central system in the dining tent. The inverter system is backed up with a generator.
Kicheche do have very good eco-ethics and strongly support the local communities. They support the Koiyaki Guiding School which trains local Masai to become guides. They donate scholarships and actively recruit graduates from the program, currently with 5 graduates amongst the team of guides and apprentices.
Established in 2004, the Kicheche Community Project has fast become a reliable source of funding for projects in and around the Aitong area.
There are other excellent responsible tourism projects run by Kichche who have their mission to encourage the preservation of the environment whilst improving the welfare of the community through improved health and education facilities. At present some of the projects they assist are the Olkimitare Nursery School, Aitong Academy Primary School, The CMF Aitong Health Clinic and the Koiyaki Guiding School.
