About Humayans tomb

  • Close Panel

Humayan was the second Mughal Emperor, and his tomb in Delhi is one of the best examples of early Mughal architecture. it is well worth a visit, especially if you are continuing to the Taj Mahal so you can see the refinement of the Mughal style.

The tomb was built by Humayan's chief widow after his death in the mid-16th century and displays the symmetry, reflecting water features and gardens used later in the Taj Mahal. It is built of red sandstone with fine marble inlays with a double dome, the first time this Central Asian feature was used in India. The garden has other tombs including that of Humayan’’s barber and the Tomb of Isa Khan, the later a good example of Lodi architecture.
