Bandhavgarh National Park is one of India's hidden natural treasures. It is remote and difficult to get to, but definitely worth the long journey. There is a good chance of seeing a tiger here, and that is just one of the highlights of this excellent park.

The National Chambal Sanctuary encompasses a stretch of the Chambal River 250 miles long from the barrage at Kota to its confluence with the Yamuta near Agra and is up to 4 miles long. It is home to the endangered Gharial Crocodile and Gangetic River Dolphin, as well as many species of reptiles and birds.

Corbett National Park is about 250km north of Delhi. Spread across 520 square kms of Himalayan foothills, the park is covered by deciduous woodland and giant sal forest. Walking safaris are possible in the forests on the periphery of the park. Corbett is best known for elusive tigers. There are large numbers of elephant, and elephant rides are also possible, which give you an interesting view of the wildlife.

Gir National Park is the home of the Asiatic Lion as well as a large population of leopard, marsh crocodiles and over 300 species of birds

Goa is a former Portuguese colony and well-known for its miles of beaches and a relaxing laid-back atmosphere.

The Himalayas is one of the world's most impressive mountain ranges. The scenery is spectacular with vistas of snow-capped mountains, and razor-edged ridges framing gorgeous valleys. It is a region with huge opportunities for a great holiday which could be taken either in Nepal or India.

Kanha in Madhya Pradesh was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's 'The Jungle Book', and is one of the best places to see tigers. It is also home to leopards, chital (spotted deer), sambar, gaur (Indian bison), many herbivores and about 200 bird species. Wildlife viewing is possible on elephant back or by jeep.

Kaziranga National Park is in Assam state, way up in the north east of India. It covers an area of about 430 kms² of swamps and tall thickets of elephant grass. This makes it the ideal habitat for the Indian One-Horned Rhino and it supports the largest number of rhinos in the subcontinent

This is a bird lovers paradise with about 375 bird species supported here. It is centred around a wetland habitat but there are also woods and dry areas, giving a great ecological diversity.

Kerala is the main destination for visitors to South India, with a diverse landscape and very different culture from the North. You can spend time relaxing by the beach or exploring the history and wildlife of this fascinating state.

Madhya Pradesh is in the centre of India and fmaous for its many National Parks. This is the best place of India for seeing tigers.

Pench National Park is the third major park in Madhya Pradesh, after Kanha and Bandhavgarh, and with a very different character with its teak-covered hills around the Pench River it combines very well with these parks.

High in the Western Ghats close to the border with Tamil Nadu, Periyar National Park is famous for its elephants. Many toher species can also be encountered when you explore the park by boator on foot.

This is the area of India that most people choose for their first trip. It is the place for classic images of India like the Taj Mahal, people praying and bathing at the edge of the Ganges in Varanasi, great ornate royal palaces that have been turned into exquisite hotels, and an expanse of desert scenery punctuated by camels and people in brightly coloured clothing.

Ranthambhore is the most accessible and most famous tiger park. It has interesting ruins dotted throughout (including a 10th century fort), as well as an excellent variety of wildlife and birds. Tigers are frequently seen here and it makes an excellent tiger safari destination as part of a wider Rajasthan tour.

Satpura National Park is one of the quietest of the national parks in Central India, and the only park which encourages walking safaris within the core zone. Although not the best spot for seeing tigers, the park is rich in wildlife, and a visit here gives a chance to see the wildlife of India at a much more intimate scale.

Roughly speaking the geographical area south of Jaipur and Jodhpur and west of Ranthambore, Southern Rajasthan is a fascinating and unspoilt area of India that is only just opening up to tourism.

Tamil Nadu is India's southernmost state with its own unique culture, language and food. The state is famous for its elborate temples, and also has relaxing hill towns and beach resorts.

The Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert, is a desert located in western India and southeastern Pakistan.

The Backwaters of Kerala south of Cochin are the ideal place for taking a relaxing houseboat cruise.
