About Shahpura Bagh

  • Close Panel

Once the summer home of the rulers of Shahpura, the 45 acre estate of Shahpura Bagh is a perfect place to base yourself in an unspoilt part of Rajasthan. Located about halfway between Jaipur and Udaipur, it provides a peaceful spot to escape from the hustle and bustle of the cities and explore the local rural communities and wildlife. There is a large swimming pool, ideal for cooling off from the heat of the day.

The spacious gardens are surrounded by lakes and are a haven for birdlife. The new infinty pool in a secluded part of the gardens provides an ideal place to relax. There are two residences, the main house where the Shahpura family reside and where meals are served on cooler nights, and a restored guest house where most of the 10 guest rooms and suites are located. Originally built to house important family guests, the rooms in the guest house are light and airy, with high ceilings and large windows. Many have doors opening out on to the gardens. The rooms are all elegantly furnished and equipped with modern amenities such as electronic safes, minibar, air-conditioning and modern bathrooms with bath and shower.

In cooler evening meals are served in the dining room in the main residence, but for the rest of the year guests can eat al fresco in the garden. The cuisine is mainly Indian with some international dishes, with most of the vegetables coming from its own gardens. Special private dinners can be arranged. Indian wine, limited French wine, beer and spirits are available.

The Shahpura family who reside here and manage Shahpura Bagh are very welcoming and hospitable. Meals can be served with the family, and guests are very much made to feel at home. There is a lot to do in the local area -exploring the village of Shahpura and the local communities, visiting nearby temples, boating, birdwatching or fishing in the lake and hiking or cycling -but this is also a great place to relax and enjoy the peaceful setting. There is also an airy sitting room where guests are welcome to relax and escape the heat of the day.

Pricing guidelines for India

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £450 to £700 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). India combines well with Nepal.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • Example tripPrice per person
  • 1 week Golden Triangle holidayBetween £800 and £2000
  • 2 weeks in northern IndiaFrom about £1500+
  • 2 weeks in southern IndiaBetween £2000 and £3000
  • 11 day wildlife safari (including tigers)From about £1250+

Shahpura was looking really wonderful.   Everyone has so much space and I love the big rooms and bathrooms.  All the suites now have televisions, i-pod docks, hair dryers and mini-bars.  Wi-fi is by the pool, in the main house and in all the bedrooms.

They have totally renovated the two upstairs rooms in the main house and these are looking really lovely. A good size and each has a lovely terrace with outdoor sitting.  They are cheaper than the suites and represent good value.  As from next year they will also serve breakfast outside the suite house so that clients don’t have to go up to the main house for breakfast and they can also eat outside if they want to.

The whole pool area is looking heavenly.  All the vegetation and bamboo and plants have grown up so it looks lush and green and colourful and it’s heavenly.  They are going to start doing special, romantic private dinners by the pool (extra cost).  The dining room in the main house has been made much more cosy and lived in and they are now doing BBQs by the pool which guests really enjoy.
