About Rawla Narlai

  • Close Panel

Built as a hunting lodge for the royal family of Jodhpur in the 17th century, Rawla Narlai is a 30 room heritage hotel nestled in the Aruvali Hills. It is still owned by the same Jodhpur family who have spent much time and effort in converting the lodge to a stunning boutique hotel. The location, halfway between Jodhpur and Udaipur, is an ideal place to break your journey, and the village of Narlai is a bustling place dominated by a huge granite outcrop complete with caves and temples and topped by a statue of a white elephant.

The rooms are decorated with contemporary fittings and equipped with air conditioning, with hot water bottles provided for cold water nights. They are located throughout the villa and vary in shape, size and decor. There are also luxury tents for an authentic 'Rajasthan caravan' experience.

There is a restaurant serving excellent local and western meals, and the service is very friendly and helpful. Meals can also be taken on the rooftop enjoying views of the village or in the central courtyard. There is a swimming pool and sunny deck where guests can relax during the day, enjoying drinks and snacks from the pool bar. Rawla Narlai exudes a calm atmosphere, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the tranquility, taking a stroll around the gardens and enjoying the views from one of the many verandas.

The local area is good walking and bird watching, maybe taking a picnic to enjoy at the nearby lake. Horse riding can be arranged locally. The 30 minute walk to the temple is recommended as a fine location rom which to watch the sunset.

Pricing guidelines for India

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £450 to £700 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). India combines well with Nepal.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • Example tripPrice per person

  • 2 weeks in northern IndiaFrom about £1500+

The Rawla Narlai is an informal, country, rural, simple but charming retreat and former hunting lodge.  Every room is different.

It is looking as lovely as ever but is a little tired however this is being rectified this year when they also add 10 new rooms.  The rooms will be ready in October and will all be of a high quality and will overlook the garden and pool.  The pool is great.  Guests eat on rooftop, often on their own amongst candles. Truly romantic.

Don't forget to walk up to the temple for sunset as it’s only half an hour, on good steps and it’s magical.
