About Raas Jodhpur

  • Close Panel

Jodhpur's first boutique hotel, the Raas has an amazing location at the base of the imposing bulk of Mehrangarh Fort, in the heart of Jodhpur's walled city close to the Clocktower Market. Almost all of the 39 rooms offer views of the fortress, with the rest overlooking the hotel's private gardens. The hotel has been built within four carefully restored interlocking buildings, with modern additions using local materials to harmonise with the old havelis.

Each room has its own balcony and has features a stylish mixture of modern design and traditional craftsmanship. The rooms make the most of Jodhpur's pink sandstone, accented with vibrant splashes of Jodhpur Blue. All rooms are air-conditioned and have bathrooms with separate showers and bathtubs. Central heating is provided for chilly winter nights, and there are interconnecting rooms for families and non-smoking rooms.

The hotel has a restaurant serving Indian and western cuisine and and an al-fresco café by the side of the heated pool. There is also an al-fresco restaurant, Dharikhana, which is open during the day and into the evening. A small spa housed in the old haveli provides space to unwind and enjoy the range of treatments. The rooftop bar has exceptional views of the fort, which is floodlit at night, the perfect place for pre- and post-prandial drinks. There is also a library.

Pricing guidelines for India

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £450 to £700 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). India combines well with Nepal.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • Example tripPrice per person
  • 1 week Golden Triangle holidayBetween £800 and £2000
  • 2 weeks in northern IndiaFrom about £1500+
  • 2 weeks in southern IndiaBetween £2000 and £3000
  • 11 day wildlife safari (including tigers)From about £1250+

This hotel is looking amazing.

The new suites - 2 heritage suites above the spa and the Raas Suite above the shop - are now complete.  They are fabulous.  Very modern and art-deco inside but gorgeously restored on the outside.  Each has a large sitting area, huge bed, bathroom, an enclosed courtyard which you can look out onto from the tub.

The small courtyard is ingenious as it does not have a view of the fort but they have put a mirror on the back wall which reflects the whole of the fort and it’s incredible.  Since it’s such a large mirror you really do feel you are looking at the fort.   There is then another courtyard with a sitting room at one end with 3 outside walls.  Very comfortable, low seating.  These two suites interlink if you want to have a 2 bedroom suite.  Pale green stone flooring, white, chrome, brown.  Sophisticated colours and very comfortable.

The duplex suites are not as popular and do not work as well for me.  The bathtub is in the sitting room upstairs and the bedroom and bathroom are downstairs.  They are rather bland and lacking in colour (black and white) and need more furnishings and things on the walls, however staff are aware of this and working on it.

The pool area is now much more private due to the grasses which have grown up.  There are more daybeds by the pool.  The shop is now open and has nice but expensive things.  The new terrace restaurant is open and dinner is served there – western and Indian cuisine.  There is also an air-conditioned / heated glassed in area with low, comfortable sofas and a bar at one end.  This will work well in winter when it’s cold.  They currently serve breakfast and lunch by the pool but dinner in the terrace restaurant.  They have a much improved western and Indian menu so there is more choice.

The spa is wonderful and has good masseuses and is quite special as they have made brilliant use of the original Haveli rooms.    The only downside at the time I visited was the lack of a GM as I just felt the staff needed more guidance and training.  This should be rectified very soon though.

The wi-fi works well and is all over the hotel.  The rooms are good and are very comfortable in a minimalist / boutique hotel sort of way.  The downside is the suitcase / changing room area in each bedroom as it’s very small and rather dark but more lights are being placed in there

Be aware of the call to prayer as it goes on for a few minutes or longer during festival times, alhtough the sound is muted when in your roome with the a/c on and the windows shut.
