About Palace on Wheels

  • Close Panel

Palace on Wheels is a luxury train ride that takes its guests on a week long journey through northern India. In 8 days you will see a large amount of India, travelling mainly through Rajasthan and taking in the cities of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. Highlights of the journey include Ranthambore National Park, Chittorgarh Fort and the Taj Mahal. It is a wonderful way of seeing lots of northern India in a relatively short space of time. Train travel is the best and most traditional way of seeing India, so why not do it in style?

The Palace on Wheels has been designed to reflect the royal and luxurious journeys in the past enjoyed exclusively by the Maharajas. The train, which is full of traditional Rajasthani decor, has 14 coaches or saloons each with four twin-bedded 'chambers'. On board there is a bar and a lounge in each saloon with indoor games and newspapers available. Each saloon has an attendant or Khidmatgar on hand to help. The two restaurants on the train, the Maharani and the Maharaja, serve Indian, continental and Chinese cuisine, with the emphasis on food from Rajasthan.

All guided tours and daily activities will be in larger groups as part of the Palace on Wheels set itinerary for the week.

Pricing guidelines for India

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £450 to £700 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). India combines well with Nepal.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
