About Neeleshwar Hermitage

  • Close Panel

The Neeleshwar Hermitage is in northern Kerala, an area traditionally known as Malabar, famed for its beaches fringed by coconut palms, inland waterways, lush hillsides and spice gardens. It is only two hours from Mangalore.

Neeleshwar combines the tranquil and rejuvenating simplicity of a retreat with the comfort and elegance of a first-class hotel. In ancient India, time spent in a beautiful forest retreat was considered an indispensable part of a balanced life. The Hermitage has been created to be a place that nourishes the spirit and fosters a sense of creative tranquillity.

The natural beauty of the surroundings is carefully protected by eco-friendly policies, and the sixteen cottages are constructed in local wood and laterite and modelled on palm-thatched fisherman huts. Rooms are spacious, airy and light with high ceilings. The site overlooks a gloriously unspoiled beach of sand, stretching as far as the eye can see in both directions and giving onto a sea that is clean and safe for swimming. There's a large swimming pool with a range of day beds where guests can relax. There is a garden specially planted to attract butterflies and a range of bird species.

Authentic and delicious meals are served in the main restaurant, and there is also a beachside restuarant - Meenakshi - where you can enjoy freshly caught fish cooked before you in the open kitchen.

During your stay you can enjoy a variety of activities such as Indian cookery classes, music and dance performanaces, guided tours of the area. There is a small library with a wide range of books about local culture, art, history and wildlife. There are a number of bicycles that guests can borrow, a relaxing and healthy way to explore the area and get a feel for the daily life of the local people.

Priya Ayurvedic Spa
The spa is central to a stay at Neeleshwar Hermitage. It offers ancient Ayurvedic therapies and spa treatments, aimed at impreving well the being of the body and spirit. The 5 spacious treatments rooms are set around a central courtyard garden and the whole has a tranquil and calming atmosphere. Ayurveda is the centuries old 'science of long life' and involves herbal preparations, medicated oil massages and guidance on diet and lifestyle. Its benefits include looking younger, feeling healthier and more energetic and a longer life. There are various treatment packages that can be tailored to suit the individual guest, such as de-stress, detox and tranquility by the sea. Spa treatments include Swedish and Thai massage, Indian head massage, body scrubs, flower and milk baths, reflexology and aromatherapy. Treatments are unhurried and relaxed. Yoga and meditation classes are also available. All in all, the spa offers an excape from the pressures of the modern world and a chance to rest, relax and rejuvenate.

This really is a retreat where you can fully enjoy beautiful surroundings and excellent food as well as treating your mind and body to a bit of TLC.

Neeleshwar Hermitage closes from 1st June to 31st July each year for essential maintenance work.

Pricing guidelines for India

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £450 to £700 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). India combines well with Nepal.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
