Bangaram Island is in the Lakshadweep archipelago - some 36 islands lying 250 miles off the Malabar coast of India. The teardrop shaped island, also known as the 'jewel of Lakshadweep', is totally unspoilt - guests virtually have the island to themselves. There are plenty of outdoor activities like kayaking, catamaran sailing, snorkelling, deep sea fishing and scuba diving to keep guests busy, but relaxing and doing nothing is arguably the most popular past time.
Accommodation is in simple palm thatched huts, traditional in design and unpretentious. The 30 huts are set in 128 acres. They all have ensuite bathrooms, ceiling fans, a 'fridge and a palm thatched veranda. There are 4 larger bungalows, ideal for families.
During the day guests can swim in the calm lagoons, snorkel or dive - the diving here is excellent; there are pristine coral reefs to be discovered. Kayaking, surfing and windsurfing are also popular activities, as is strolling along the expansive sandy beach, watching the scuttling hermit crabs. There's no obligation to do anything more than relax on the beach or doze in a hammock, listening to the sound of the waves, the wind in the coconut palms and the calls of the seabirds. Ayurveda massages are on offer to rejuvenate and revitalise.
Food is a highlight and fresh fish, other seafood and coconut from the island's plantations figure prominently. You can even go deep sea fishing and bring back your own catch to our chef who will cook it to your choice. The indoor dining option is an architectural marvel crafted entirely with bamboo and and palm fronds around a single pole, while tables and benches on the beach sands are our outdoor option. Barbeques are often organised. After a hard day spent on the sea, kick off your sandals and relax with a drink at our well stocked beachside bar.
