Situated in a grove of red mangroves on the edge of the ocean, Red Mangrove Aventura Lodge is in a peaceful location, yet is only a short walk from the Charles Darwin Research Centre and downtown Puerto Ayora.

The lodge has a small outdoor jacuzzi and opens onto a private bay for a relaxing dip in the ocean. The lodge provides 14 rooms, most with ocean views, all with private bathrooms, aircon and cable TV. There is a seaside restaurant with choice of Japanese or Galapagos fusion cuisine.

A variety of activities including tours of the island by jeep, horseback or mountain bikes and heading out to sea for kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving or surfing can be arranged during your stay.

The lodge is currently going through a process of certification for sustainable management.

Best time

The Galapagos Islands are a year round destination, though it is warmer and wetter from December to May, and cooler and drier with some mist from June to November.

Meals

Bed and breakfast. The Inn's restaurant serves maki, sashimi, sushi and a selection of Japanese dishes.

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights to Quito or Guayaquil will add from about £950 to £1250 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). You will also need internal flights from the mainland to the islands which cost about £375 to £400. A Galapagos National Park tax is payable on arrival - currently $100. A few yachts also offer shorter or longer cruises. Charter cruises are also available. Please ask for details.
