Hacienda Abraspungo is an example of traditional colonial architecture both inside and out. The interior is decorated with photographs and pictures of local Andean scenes and throughout are antiques bearing testament to pre Spanish and pre Colombian cultures of the region. The hacienda is set in lovely landscaped gardens with wide stone pathways and pretty fountains where guests can relax and marvel at the views of the Andes mountains. The hacienda is named after a glacial valley situated in the heart of the country, between Mount Chimborazo and Carihuairazo.
There are 42 guest rooms, all well furnished and attractively decorated but also boasting traditional touches, such as wooden floors, ceiling beams and local furniture. All rooms have direct access to the gardens. Each room is named after an Andean mountain and the decor reflects this.
The restaurant serves fresh produce purchased from local farmers cooked in a variety of manners to please a range of tastes and palates. The room is cosy with a large fireplace and is decorated with local antiques. Meals are complemented by a fine selection of wines and spirits. The atmospheric bar has a musical theme and is decorated with many antique instruments. This is a relaxing place where guests can mix and chat after the day's events. The Riobamba Salon is available for private parties and groups.
In terms of activities, guests can enjoy tennis and volleyball, play indoor games (pool, darts and table football) and board games in the dedicated games room or browse in the handicraft shop. Massages and health treatments are also available. The hotel has internet access. The hacienda can arrange a variety of activities in the area including hiking and trekking in Sangay National Park and Chimborazo Natrure Reserve, mountain climbing and horse riding, all great ways to explore the magnificent Andean scenery.
