About Hotel Porto Jofre

  • Close Panel

Hotel Porto Jofre is a comfortable hotel in the northern Pantanal at the end of the dirt track that is grandly called the Transpantineria Highway, on the banks of the Cuiaba River. This is a great area for viewing jaguars - the main reason for staying at this hotel.

The hotel has 28 individual apartments set in spacious gardens rich in birdlife. All apartments are en-suite with air-conditioning, television and 'fridge. There is a porch complete with hammock, ideal for relaxing between wildlife viewings. The lodge also has a TV room with separate games room, a  swimming pool and sundeck with sunloungers. The restaurant serves regional fare, including lots of locally caught fish.

The focus of a stay here is the jaguar spotting trips on the Cuiaba River, which are organised in smallboats. These can involved long days searching for jaguars along the river bank, but nowhere else in the world are you likely to get such excellent jaguar sightings.

Pricing guidelines for Brazil

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £900 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Brazil combines with Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands due to scheduled flights, so, for example, it makes a good beach stop after Peru or Ecuador.

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • Example tripPrice per person
  • 2 weeks nature & wildlife and/or beach trip, including such highlights such as rainforest, Pantanal and Iguassu Falls, plus Rio and the coastBetween £2500 and £4000
  • 1 week Rio and Costa Verde beach holidayBetween £1500 and £2000
  • 2½ weeks highlights of BrazilAround £3500 +

The Hotel Porto Jofre was built as a fishing lodge, and fishing is still the biggest source of income, although jaguar spotting is growing in importance. The setting is attractive if rather park-like, and the accommodation while pretty characterless is much more comfortable than you will find anywhere else close to the Cuiaba River. There isn't much else to do here other than the boat trips along the Cuiaba, but the boat trips are unmissable - the experience of seeing jaguars for so long in the open is an unforgetable one. This is a good option for seeing the jaguars without missing out on the creature comforts.
