Hotel Porto Jofre is a comfortable hotel in the northern Pantanal at the end of the dirt track that is grandly called the Transpantineria Highway, on the banks of the Cuiaba River. This is a great area for viewing jaguars - the main reason for staying at this hotel.
The hotel has 28 individual apartments set in spacious gardens rich in birdlife. All apartments are en-suite with air-conditioning, television and 'fridge. There is a porch complete with hammock, ideal for relaxing between wildlife viewings. The lodge also has a TV room with separate games room, a swimming pool and sundeck with sunloungers. The restaurant serves regional fare, including lots of locally caught fish.
The focus of a stay here is the jaguar spotting trips on the Cuiaba River, which are organised in smallboats. These can involved long days searching for jaguars along the river bank, but nowhere else in the world are you likely to get such excellent jaguar sightings.
