Fazenda San Francisco is an extensive cattle ranch in Mato Grosso do Sul in the Pantanal. The fazenda can accommodate up to 28 guests and offers a wide range of activities including wildlife viewing, boat trips, night safaris and horse riding.
The 9 nine apartments of Herdsmens Rest are simply but comfortably furnished. They are equipped with air conditioning, fans and minibar and all have an ensuite bathroom. The restaurant serves buffet-style meals and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is a separate bar. There is a visitor centre where guests can listen to talks on the Pantanal and a shop selling souvenirs. Guests can relax by the swimming pool, or in the relaxation area with its chairs and hammocks.
The main reason for staying here is to experince the wide variety of flora and fauna in the Pantanal. Guests can accompany guides on interpretive walks, take boat cruises and enjoy wildlife viewing in open jeeps. They can hope to see marsh deer, capybaras, caimans, anteaters, tapirs and, with luck, the elusive jaguar. This is also great birding territory. The fazenda has its own stables and horse riding is a popular way to explore the area. Canoeing is also available.
