From the town of Alta Floresta drive along unsurfaced roads past cattle farms for about 45 minutes to the Telas Pires river where the road ends. From here cross the Telas Pires by motorised canoe and boat up the Cristalino River for 30 minutes to Cristalino Jungle Lodge.
The lodge facilities are arranged in 2 clearings, with the service facilities (dining room, kitchen, lounge etc) in one clearing, and accommodations in the other. The accommodation consists of 2 blocks of 4 double rooms, and 4 VIP bungalows. The standard rooms have twin beds, ceiling fans, luggage storage and ensuite bathrooms with a solar heated shower.
The lodge has about 13 miles of trails through a variety of forest types and habitats, both directly behind the lodge and upstream (accessible by boat). The lodge has a large bird (550 + species) and butterfly (2000 + species) list. There is also excellent mammal fauna and mammals often found in the surrounding forest include Brazilian Tapir (usually seen along river banks), Capybara, anteaters, opossums, river otters, Giant Otters (on longer river trips), brocket deer, agoutis, Tayra, and Paca. There are also 7 species of primates - Night Monkey, Dusky Titi Monkey, Brown Capuchin, Red-handed Howler Monkey, White-Whiskered Spider Monkey, and the endemic Red-Nosed Bearded Saki Monkey.
Trails include the Serra Trail, a short boat ride from the lodge, which traverses a small hill to a savannah type of forest growing on top of granite outcrops. If the weather is clear there are beautiful views over the forest below. On the Rocky Trail there is a mammal clay lick with a 6-metre high screened viewing platform from where tapirs, peccaries and deer can be viewed, and just a 20 minute walk from the lodge there is a spectacular 50-metre tower which emerges above the canopy.
