Is it for you?

This is an easy trip, but does involve long drives on a dirt road to reach your Pantanal lodge and long boat rides on the Cuiaba River searching for jaguars.

Best time

Your best chance to spot jaguars is from June to October, but May and November are good options too.

Getting there

Flights from the UK into Rio and out of Sao Paulo start from around £750 per person.

Itinerary

Duration: 13 days

Days 1-3: Arrive in Rio de Janeiro. You have one full day tour and one free day to explore.
Days 4-6: Today you fly to the Amazon and transfer to the incredible Cristalino Jungle Lodge for some wonderful rainforest activities such as canoeing, canopy towers, trails. Great birding, monkeys, and maybe giant otters, tapirs ...
Days 7-8: Fly back to Cuiaba and transfer to Araras Lodge. Horse riding, river trips, naturalist walking safaris in the forest & Pantanal plains.
Days 9-11: After lunch transfer to Jaguar Lodge where you have daily jaguar spotting trips on the Cuiaba River in a small private boat.
Day 12: To Cuiaba along the Transpantaneira, with private guide for wildlife watching en route.
Day 13: Fly to Sao Paolo then onwards to home.

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £900 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Brazil combines with Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands due to scheduled flights, so, for example, it makes a good beach stop after Peru or Ecuador.
