Right from first getting on the rutted Transpantaneira Highway (the only road into the North Pantanal) and the first rickety wooden bridge we knew this would be brilliant. Even more so when shortly afterwards meeting the first (of many) capybaras and caimans, happily sharing the same waterside sandbank. Our driver and guide were both excellent, and we were amazed at the speed with which Fabricio managed to set his tripod and scope up to pinpoint the numerous bird species.

If we had gone here first then Amazonia it would not have been as good. All the wild life is so easy to see here and this would have detracted from the adventure of the amazon. After a while one trip would have been the same as one before so 3 days was enough to see & do it all.

We especially liked the personal nature of the holiday, probably helped because there were only one of two other people staying at our lodge in the Pantanal. Definitely the sort of holiday that is improved by having very few people around.
