Pousada Picinguaba

Pousada Picinguaba is a lovely 10-room hotel located on Brazil'’s stunning forested coastline between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The rooms overlook tropical gardens that surround the spring-fed swimming pool and the food served is plentiful and local. This is a very relaxed 'rustic chic' hotel. A tranquil place to recharge your batteries (natural spa) or to use as a base to explore the area.

The ensuite rooms are simply decorated and have no TV, telephones or internet. All but one room has a private balcony and a hammock. Drinks are available 24 hours a day from an honesty bar in the corridor. The honeymoom suite has an ensuite jacuzzi and a large balcony overlooking the sea.

The hotels pool bar offers fresh tropical juices and snacks and local cocktails in the evening. Meals are based on local organic products and depend on the days catch or harvest and are prepared by a chef assisted by ladies from the local village.

The interior decoration of the hotel mixes Portuguese colonial architecture and the art of Amazonian indians, and a private gallery displays art from up and coming Brazilian artists which are available for purchase. Arts and crafts can also be purchased from the hotel's boutique.

Part of the lounge area can be turned into a home cinema, showing international and Brazilian classics, and the lounge houses a diverse library. Tea, coffee and homemade cakes are available in the drawing room throughout the day.

Take the hotel's schooner to deserted islands and beaches, accompany a local guide through the rainforest to spectacular hidden waterfalls, visit beautiful Paraty half an hour away, dive, fish, surf, or sea kayak.
