Pantanal Wildlife Centre is set in 4,500 ha of land on the
Pixaim River, 1.5 miles from the Transpantaneira. There are 10 simply furnished twin/double motel style rooms with ensuite facilities (hot showers), a/c and 24 hour electricity. Each room has a hammock and seating outside, and there are plans to build another block of 10 rooms in the future. The Centre also has a recently renovated dining room/lounge, and a small open air swimming pool. Kayaks are available for clients use.
One of the main attractions at Pantanal Wildlife Centre are the Pixaim otters. The otter families have been fed piranhas for years and are habituated to the presence of tourist boats.
Though the large group of 13 otters is now dispersed, with 2 dry season river trips there is still an excellent chance of otter viewing. The probability falls considerably during the rainy season.
Tapirs visit the centre on most nights, and there is a viewing tower at their preferred feeding spot. Late September and October is the best time to view tapir activity from the tower. Patches of gallery forest line the river and are home to 3 species of monkeys - Brown Capuchin, Black and Gold Howler and Silvery (Bared-eared) Marmoset.
During a 3 night stay at Pantanal Wildlife Centre the activities offered are hikes, river trips, horse rides (at an adjacent ranch), Transpantaneira truck safaris to see the beautiful Pantanal vistas and caiman-filled pools of Campo do Jofre, and night drives.
