Castelinho38 is an elegant colonial building dating back to 1866, with a striking castle-like facade. The ten guest rooms are spread over the two storeys of the hotel. They are spacious, particularly the master suites on the first floor, and all have an ensuite shower room. Two of the suites can accommodate three people. The rooms are simply but attractively decorated and are light and airy with large windows. The high ceilings, polished wooden floors and local artwork add to the atmosphere of the guesthouse. Each room is named after a tree or plant found in the garden and all are individually decorated.
Outside, there is an inviting terrace, with chairs, tables and parasols. The bar serves a selection of drinks and snacks during the day. The lush gardens below are well stocked with local trees, flowers and shrubs. From the terrace guests can enjoy views of the city and the Baia de Guanabara. There is also a large and sunny lounge area, where guests can relax on the brightly coloured beanbags.
The neighbourhood of Santa Teresa is known for its old colonial buildings, cobbled streets and lanes. There are many shops and galleries displaying local arts and crafts, as well as numerous bars and restaurants. The hotel is well placed for exploring the rest of city. It is just a 15 minute tram ride to the city centre, 10 minutes to Copacabana and about 30 minutes to Sugar Loaf and Corcovado.
