About Abu Camp

  • Close Panel

The Abu Concession is in the south west of the Okavango Delta and consists of 173,000 hectares. It has seasonal floodplains, channels and palm islands to the north and more sand veld drier lands to the west. There is plenty of big game here including giraffe, buffalo, elephant, zebra, blue wildebeest and red lechwe. Carnivores include lion and spotted hyena plus the more elusive leopard and wild dog. Nearly 400 bird species are found here.

Activities include day and night game drives, fishing and mokoro expeditions. The camp is well known for it's elephant interactions, guests are allowed to get close to these wonderful animals and learn about their lifestyle.

Abu Camp is situated in an old riverine forest and has5 en-suite Afro-Bedouin style tents which are spacious and airy and have their own distinctive fittings and furnishings. Each room has its own elevated teak deck, sculpted around a large Sycamore Fig or Jackalberry tree, overlooking the lagoon which attracts plenty of animals. The rooms are linked by a network of pathways.

Abu Camp was refurbished in early 2010 and now has a new deck, lounge, library and dining areas which include a tiered deck with views over the lagoon. There is a traditional camp fire where guests take pre-dinner drinks before enjoying a gorgeous meal with fine wines.Abu Camp has a well stocked bar. There is also a plunge pool, where guests can escape the heat of the day. Abu Camp also has new starbeds located above the elephant boma, offering guests the chance to sleep out under the stars.

Villa Okavango which was previously in the Abu Concession is now permanently closed.

Pricing guidelines for Botswana

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Botswana combines well with Zambia and South Africa.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
