Maun is in northern Botswana, and is the country's fifth largest town - although officially, it is still a village! It was established in 1915 as the tribal capital of the Batawana people, but is now the tourist capital of the country and many safari and air charter companies are based here.
The town is situated on the Thamalakane River, and is a small, but growing town of abouit 40,000 people. It also blends traditional and modern and it is still possible to see tribemen bringing their cattle to town to sell.
Travellers tend not to spend much time in Maun, but there are a number of supermarkets and shopping centres as well as a few hotels in and around the town.
