About Selinda Camp

  • Close Panel

Selinda Camp is a small, luxury tented safari camp that is situated on the banks of the eastern Selinda Spillway, which links the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti and Kwando marshes. It is in the 320,000 acre private Selinda Reserve, so exclusivity is guaranteed. The co-owners of the camp since 2007 are world reknowned wildlife film makers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, who have filmed and photographed many of the animals of the Okavango. There is an art gallery in camp and an area where guests can download and view their photographs.

This region borders Chobe National Park's western boundary and is an area rich in wildlife with varied habitats. Much of the concession is wooded but there is a strip of floodplains along the Linyanti River. The Savute Channel also feeds water to this area, now flowing again after many years being dry. This area is famous for large herds of elephants but other abundant species include zebra, wildebeest, impala, giraffe, lechwe, reedbuck and kudu. Predators here include lion, spotted hyaena, leopard, cheetah and wild dog.

At the peak of the dry season in late September, the Selinda Reserve has been documented to hold up to 9000 elephants. All the major predators are present: lion, leopard and cheetah and this region is well known for wild dog (which den in June / July). There are good densities of giraffe and buffalo (in the dry season) and all the antelope - including roan and sable.

Selinda has 9 guest tents under thatch, accommodating a maximum of 18 guests. Each tent has comfortable beds with luxury bathrooms and were all re-fitted in 2007. The interiors have writing desks and lounge furniture. There are spacious, en-suite bathrooms, with full sized stone baths, antique showers, dual vanity basins and hot and cold water. Each tent has a large private veranda where guests can relax looking out over the wonderful views over the floodplains, waterways and palm islands.

The main living area has a lounge and a raised thatched dining overlooking the floodplains and the Spillway. There is also a raised deck for evening meals under the stars. There is also a fire where guests can gather each evening to chat and relax. Selinda Camp also has a library and a gallery. There is a plunge pool, perfect for cooling off. There is a cool wine cellar too.

Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles by day and night and guided walks from the camp. Boat trips can be taken depending on the water levels and fly fishing can be arranged. Canoeing is also a good way to explore. There are some viewing hides near the camp. The nature walks accompanied by an armed guard, are excellent here. There is also the chance to enjoy a night under the stars at the new sleepout.

Pricing guidelines for Botswana

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Botswana combines well with Zambia and South Africa.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

I stayed here before Selinda Camp was re-branded but the location and style are the same!  The area surrounding the camp is stunning and a fanastic choice if you are looking for big game, vast plains, great walking and luxury to come home to!  Watch the sunrise from here, it's stunning .....
