Savuti Camp is set in front of the spectacular Savuti Channel, an area rich in game and predators. Between 1980 and 2008 the Channel had ceased flowing, making this area an important corridor and feeding ground, with the waterhole attracting large numbers of animals. However, in 2009 the waters returned and the Channel is now flowing again, swallowing up the well known waterhole. Guests at Savuti have the privilege of watching the returning animals adapt to this new environment. The deep, clear waters are now home to hippo and abundant aquatic life as well as large numbers of birds. It is not possible to predict how long the Channel will continue to flow. If the rains are poor in 2010 it will once again start to recede. But either way, guests are sure to observe plentiful wildlife in this ever changing region.
There are just seven tents in this camp, which is one of just three camps in the 1,250km² Linyanti Reserve. Savuti Camp was completely rebuilt at the start of 2007, and the dining area has been repositioned to make the most of views of the Savuti Channel.
Savuti Camp provides very comfortable accommodation with en-suite facilities. Five of the bathrooms are within the tents and two tents have bathrooms with wonderful open fronts facing onto the Savuti Channel. Each tent is raised off the ground on a wooden deck. The camp has a thatched dining area, bar and plunge pool, all on raised wooden decks, and a curio shop.
The area around the camp is home to large concentrations of wildlife, especially in the dry winter season. Roan and sable antelope, giraffe and large numbers of elephant can be seen, as well as predators including lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and wild dog. There are day and night game drives and guided walks to enable guests to fully explore the area. Game viewing from the various hides around the camp is another popular option.
