This trip combines the Kalahari Desert with the Okavango Delta and is best taken between December and May when the scenery is green and wildlife and botany are at their best.
The trip starts at a classic African style safari lodge in Central Kalahari which has a pool, sun deck and large lounge bar area to cool off. Activities here include day and night game drives and interaction with the San Bushmen. This area of the Kalahari is semi desert sandveld dotted with acacia woods and scrub. Species found here include specially adapted desert animals such as springbok, gemsbok, jackals, brown hyena, bat-eared fox and caracal. If you are lucky you may see the black-maned Kalahari Lions. There is never a huge congregation of animals hwere but it is a wonderfully pretty setting with vast open plains and huge night skies.
Onto the Okvango region you will then experience game viewing by vehicle or on the water. The area has a combination of seasonal flood plains and pans, open grasslands and dry bush and scrub. There are plenty of elephants in the region and many other traditionally seen species such as giraffe, zebra, buffalo and the rare wild dogs.
