For travellers wanting to explore Botswana by land rather than flying from lodge to lodge and camp out under the stars, these small group mobile safaris are the ideal way to travel.
Tribes offers various levels of mobile camping safaris from budget to luxury, group to individually-tailored. The small group type of trip is a good choice for single travellers as well as couples and friends as staying in a group keeps the price down and enables you to meet fellow wildlife adventurers along the way!
There are a range of trips which vary in length from the one week Kalahari Safari and Buffalo Safari through to two weeks on the Lion, Hyena or Elephant Safari covering different parts of Botswana. Please ask us for the different itineraries.
All trips use a 4WD game viewing vehicle with open roll up sides and roof for good visibility, all tents and camping equipment is provided and carried behind the vehicle in a trailer (this is left at camp sites while you go out during the day). You are guided by a professional trained ranger and helped by a camp assistant.
Camping is in private campsites through the national parks and reserves and uses adventure style dome tents with mattresses and sleeping bags. Toilet tents and shower tents (bucket showers with water heated on the fire) are set up in the camp sites and shared by the group participants. Meals are prepared round the camp fire and eaten under the shade of trees or out under the stars.
Most itineraries include a wide variety of scenery and species of wildlife to be seen and offer a range of activities depending on the location including game drives, bush walks, boat cruises and mokoro trips.
All meals, transfers, services of an English speaking professional guide and camp assistant, game viewing activities on safari.
Drinks, flights, tips, visas, insurance.
Anyone of reasonable fitness who enjoys camping and adventure will love these trips.
Any time.
International flights into Maun, Botswana or Livingstone, Zambia.
Duration: Varies from 6 to 16 nights.
The small group mobile camping safaris start either in Maun or Kasane in Botswana. The group meets with your guide and vehicle and heads off either in a round trip loop or one way, depending on the itinerary.
Normally you drive to the campsite and set camp and then the next day will explore the area in detail on foot or by boat or vehicle then return to camp at the end of the day.
Extras can be added to most itineraries such as hotels before and after the camping safari and some itineraries you can add excursions such as a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta.

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.
International flights will add from about £700 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Botswana combines well with Zambia and South Africa.
For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

Absolutely wonderful. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff at Xakanaxa, Kwara and Lebala camps.
Perfect! Memorable. A BIG thank you to Julie and the team. With thanks, Wilf.
One of the best holidays I've ever taken.
We had an exceptional holiday, packed with activities from start to finish. Highly recommend all of the camps we stayed at and Julie for the itinerary...
