About Shinde Camp

  • Close Panel

Shinde Camp Shinde is nestled on a lush palm dotted island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta. Located at the edge of a lagoon, it is surrounded by clear waterways, which flow over yellow sands and past palm-fringed islands teeming with birdlife and game. This is a delight particularly for photographers. Its remoteness has ensured that the innocent wildlife has not been subject to the pressures of mass tourism. The island is especially favored by members of the antelope family, including the elusive sitatunga whose elongated and splayed hooves enable it to walk on the unstable beds of reeds floating on the water. The camp's delta craft take guests on an interesting trip to see breeding colonies of herons, egrets, pelicans and storks. The guide will arrange walks, show guests insects, as well as a wide variety of bird life and game.

Shinde has all year round water making it a great base for mokoro and boat trips. Day and night drives are offered here as well as bush walks. The camp is surrounded by open plains areas which are good sighting places for elephants and wild dogs.

Accommodation is in 8 large, twin-bedded safari style tents with windows, including one honeymoon tent. These private deluxe tents include en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, showers and flush toilets. Shinde accommodates only 16 guests in total. Each tent has a private viewing deck offering incredible views of both worlds - grasslands and the delta. This full service tented camp includes incredible cuisine and dining in the Treehouse is a multi-tiered dining area and eating here is a special experience.

A unique feature of Shinde Camp is its exclusive private-use camp called The Enclave at Shinde, separate accommodation with all of the amenities. 3 new tents elevated on teak platforms overlook vast papyrus and reed expanses dotted with palm islands where frequent sightings of the elusive sitatunga occur. Guests may reserve the Enclave section of Shinde Camp for private use and includes a private boma and a private bar/dining area/lounge overlooking the lagoon and a personal chef and waiter/barman are specifically assigned to this facility and its exclusive guests. A senior guide hosts guests and will escort them on private game activities: morning, afternoon and evening game drives, game walks, mokoros, motor boats and excellent fishing. The minimum reservation is for three nights.

Pricing guidelines for Botswana

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Botswana combines well with Zambia and South Africa.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
