About Meno a Kwena

  • Close Panel

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp is situated on the banks of the Boteti Riverbed, which has been dry since 1995 (though an unusual flood did appear in 2009!). Meno A Kwena was established, and is still run by, the wildlife documentary producer, and Kalahari and Okavango expert, David Dugmore.

During the dry season, the pools around the riverbed provide the only source of water for much of Southern Africa's largest zebra and wildebeest migration. Resident and migratory wildlife around Meno A Kwena also includes elephants, lions, monkeys, giraffe, wild dogs and a huge number of different bird species, all of whom are drawn to the waterhole 100 feet below the camp.

Meno A Kwena is very much in the style and spirit of an authentic safari camp. Accommodation is in large comfortable safari tents, set on the edge of the riverbank. Each tent has a semi-attached bathroom with flush toilet and bucket shower. There is a main tent with lounge area, library, bar and kitchen. The chef cooks meals safari-style; over the campfire, on the barbecue and in the tin box oven.

The pace of life at Meno A Kwena is relaxed, allowing guests to savour the vast Kalahari skies and the richness of wildlife. There is a rock pool for a cooling dip.

Pricing guidelines for Botswana

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £700 to £1000 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Botswana combines well with Zambia and South Africa.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

Meno is a really lovely camp - Dave Dugmore's love of Botswana shows through and the relationship with the local land and people is evident.  The camp has a lovely friendly, boheimian atmosphere.  It's worth spending 3 nights here or longer if you want to take advantage of the sleep outs on the pans - that is an awesome experience!
