The Abu Concession is in the south west of the Okavango Delta and consisted of 173,000 hectares. It has seasonal flooplains, channels and palm islands to the north and more sand veld drier lands to the west. There is plenty of big game here including giraffe, buffalo, elephant, zebra, blue wildebeest and red lechwe. Carnivores include lion and spotted hyaena plus the more elusive leopard and wild dog. Nearly 400 bird species are found here.
Activities include day and night game drives, fishin and mokoro expeditions. The camp is well known for it's elephant interactions, guests are allowed to get close to these wonderful animals and learn about their lifestyle.
Abu Camp is situated in an old riverine forest with six en-suite huge tented rooms. When it re-opens in 2010 there will be just five rooms. The design is a combination of African and 'Bedouin', large and airy and each room has it's own shaded deck over looking the lagoon which attracts plenty of wildlife.
The main area of lounge and dining tent has views over the lagoon and features a library and study area. There is a tradtional camp fire where guests take pre-dinner drinks before enjoying a gorgeous meal with fine wines.
Villa Okavango which was previously in the Abu Concession is now permanently closed.
Please note, Abu Camp will be closed for refurbishment from 31st December 2009 and is due to reopen in June 2010.
