Location: Anantara Bazaruto, previously known as Indigo Bay, is on Bazaruto Island, the largest in the archipelago of the same name in southern Moazmbique. It is about 20 miles from the mainland. The resort can be reached on a 25 minute flight or by boat, from Vilanculos.
Rooms: There are 44 villas in total divided into 5 types: beach (58 sq metres), sea view pool (155 sq m), deluxe sea view pool (250 sq m), beach pool (105 sq m) and Anantara pool (310 sq m). All are built using wood, reed and thatch and provide comfortable and roomy accommodation. Each is en-suite and has a living area, dressing area and balcony or terrace with table, chairs and sun loungers. Amenities include air conditioning, electronic safe, flat screen TV, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities and mosquito nets. Sea view pool villas also have plunge pools and a bar counter with stools. Deluxe sea view pool villas each have 2 bedrooms both en-suite, a kitchen, outdoor dining area and plunge pool with Jacuzzi, and provide good family accommodation. Beach pool villas, ideal for couples, have four poster beds, plunge pool and Jacuzzi. The Anantara pool villa has 2 en-suite bedrooms, shaded deck with overhead fans, outdoor dining area and plunge pool.
Activities: Resort activities include watersports (waterskiing, knee and wake boarding, kayaking), snorkelling, diving, dhow cruises, dolphin cruises, seasonal whale, whale shark, turtle and dugong cruises, and deep sea fishing. Land activities include horse riding, guided bird watching, dune boarding, beach volleyball and cookery classes. Staff can arrange 4x4 island tours, and a half-day snorkelling trip near Paradise Island including a picnic lunch
Facilities: There are 2 pools, one for families and the other adult only. There are several restaurants (see below) and a bar. The spa has an extensive menu of therapeutic and beauty treatments and has 5 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, ice room and wet room. There is a gym with weights, treadmills, rowing and cycling machines. The resort has a gift shop.
Dining: There are 4 dining venues. Golfinho, open for breakfast and dinner, serves Mediterranean food in an indoor dining room, Tartaruga, open for lunch and dinner, offers international cuisine eaten on the beach deck, and Clube Naval serves light meals including pizzas for lunch and dinner and is situated next to the pool. The 4th option is ‘dining by design’, private dining in your choice of location and food cooked by your personal chef. Anantara also has regular beach barbecues. Meals are eaten at individual tables.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome. Several villas have 2 bedrooms, ideal for families. The resort has a children’s entertainment room, and a swimming pool designed for families.
