Mysore is the second largest city in Karnataka, located at the base of the Chamundi Hills and about 146kms from the state capital of Bangalore. It is noted for its many ornate palaces, including Amba Vilas (also known as Mysore Palace). It is an important cultural centre and many visitors flock to the city for the 10 day Dasara Festival each year.
Mysore has several museums and attractive gardens. From here it is possible to visit the hill stations of Ooty and Sultan Battery and the national parks of Nagarhole, Bandipur and Mudumalai.

Flight time: Flight time from London to Delhi is 8 hours 30 minutes and to Mumbai is about 8 hours.
Language: The official language is Hindi, which about 30% of the population speaks. English is very widely spoken and is used for official and commercial purposes.
Visas: Required for British travellers. Other nationalities should obtain advice from their embassy.
Health: There are no compulsory vaccinations.
