Park Eco Lodge, also known as the 'Pousada do Parque' is a small lodge located on the Chapada dos Guimarães table mountain next to the National Park. It is in a private reserve of 150 hectare just 60 kilometres north of Cuiaba, the state capital of Mato Grosso at the very centre of South America.
The reserve includes two seasonal waterfalls (at their best from December to July), as well as the Springs of Independence brook which forms the complex of seven waterfalls inside the Chapada dos Guimares National Park. This is a great place to base yourself whilst exploring the national park which offers lots of walking trails and fabulous landscapes. Bird watching is excellent here with around 280 species recorded at the lodge. There are some interesting mammals too, though some prove elusive, but night camera traps have picked up images of maned wolf and puma! Staff are very helpful and will advise you on how best to spend your time
The lodge's 8 rooms offer simple, comfort and decoration and you'll have the benefit of air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom. The swimming pool offers welcome respite from the heat and there are hammocks where you relax after spending time exploring the national park. The restaurant, Teta de Loba, serves mostly local cuisine using organic ingredients from the region. Bread and cakes are baked on the premises and meals are cooked to order.
The lodge was constructed adhering to advanced environmental criteria, using materials like salvaged wood and recycled milk boxes. Water is heated by solar panels and there is a modern treatment plant for waste water and a good recycling policy.
