To get away from everything in the wilds of northern Botswana, to feel like you’re really out in the remote African bush (which you will be), yet to have simple comfort after your daily safari explorations, Saile Tented Camp is a perfect choice.
The ‘simple’ life refers to things like no electricity or piped water (though bush showers and flush loos are provided), but as regards food you can expect very high quality meals. Likewise your walk-in tent has a very comfy bed and good linen.
The safari experience here can be superb. The expert naturalist guides are very friendly and willing to do their utmost to get you to see as much wildlife as possible. The camp is on the Linyanti Marsh, west of Chobe, and at dry times of the year the water here attracts wildlife from a long way off. The birding is excellent, plus you are likely to see elephant, buffalo, zebra, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo, hyena, aardvark and various other nocturnal species.
Enjoy game drives, walks, night drives and even mokoro rides if the water levels are suitable.
Open: From the beginning of April to the end of October each year.
Location: This is a remote camp in a private concession area within the Linyanti region in northern Botswana. It is about a 1 hour flight from Maun or just 30 mins from Kasane. It is then a roughly 1 hour drive to camp, but as we might be game viewing on the way it could take longer! The nearest airstrip is Saile, a 40 minute drive from the camp.
Rooms: There are up to 6 tents, though if you want to take the camp privately this is possible with a minimum of 8 people. The tents are large walk-in en-suite tents (6x4m) with comfortable beds, a flush loo, and an open air bucket shower.
Activities: Each day there will be 2 game viewing activities. Mostly this will be in a vehicle with a guide, but you can also take walking safaris here too.
Dining: You will have a small early morning breakfast before your first game drive of the day, then on your return you can tuck into a hearty brunch. After a siesta, there is afternoon tea and cakes before you head off on safari again. As the sun sets sundowner drinks and snacks will be served, then in the evening you’ll have a 3-course dinner.
Children: Children 7yrs upwards are welcome in camp.
Health: This is a malarial area.
Communication: Please don’t expect to get a mobile signal. There is satellite phone communication for emergencies.
NB We've categorised this accommodation as 'simple', due to the nature of the camp and tented accommodation, however, in terms of bush camping this is very high quality.
